"A Night in Vienna" a rousing success!
by GLOW Staff on 03/20/11
WOW! What an evening! Our first annual fundraising dinner, concert and silent auction went off better than we ever could have hoped! Thanks to High Cotton Restaurant, Greenville and Maverick Kitchens, guests were treated to a five star, three course dinner with wine and champagne in High Cotton's beautiful River Room overlooking downtown. We couldn't be happier with the high quality food and service that they provided.
Out silent auction was also a big hit! Guests got some great deals on jewelry, spa treatments, wine, and even a trip to NYC to see Broadway shows!
The real highlight of the evening was the first rate entertainment, led by GLOW's Associate Music Director Marion Sprott on the piano, and singers Lucie Svatonova, Elizabeth Juzaitis, Serena Hill, Sara Magun, Miriam Jackson, Ashley King, Jon Kilpatrick, Luke Browder, Brandon Graves, Steve Compton and Daniel Marlatt. They put on a fantastic revue of operetta hits from Merry Widow, Judita, Naughty Marietta, Grand Duchess of Gerolstein,Les Contes d'Hoffman, and Die Fledermaus for the audience's enjoyment. We can't wait for the next one on New Year's Eve!
The big news of the evening was the formal announcement of GLOW's 2011-12 Season: Our two Main-Stage production: The Mikado (Gilbert & Sullivan) and Don Pasquale (Donizetti), along with our three Off-Stage Series events: New Years Eve Gala, Valentine's Day Conert and Rock Opera! (Music from Hair, Jesus Christ Supserstar, Tommy, Pippin and Godspell).

So much stuff!

Yes - stuff, I say! GLOW has a lot going on this spring! Be sure to grab a ticket to our swanky fundraising dinner "A Night in Vienna" on March 19th at High Cotton restuarant in Greenville. You will not believe the menu, silent auction items and entertainment we've lined up! oooohlala! If I weren't already the General Director of GLOW, I'd have been the first to buy a ticket.
Then, on March 13th at the Warehouse Theater, come and enjoy our Off-Stage offering for the spring: "Songs in the Key of Love: A Rodgers & Hart Revue." Our own James Stiepan, board member and life long Rodgers & Hart fanatic, suggested we look into their music - and boy are we glad we did! With Jim's help we've assembled a beautiful tour through the music of this prolific duo. Complete with a jazz trio, you'll get to hear (drumroll......) me (Christian Elser) and Artistic Director Jenna Tamisiea sing the songs you love, and the songs you WILL love. It's a one night only event folks!
But, wait - that's not all! Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" opens in May - and we've got a knockout cast for this production. More to come on that soon.
And come May, lookout for when we officially "announce" our 2011-12 main stage season.... good things are coming!
In the meantime - get those fundraiser tickets! And help us keep operetta in the Upstate!
Oh GLOW blog, how we've neglected you!

Yes, the GLOW blog needs a kick in the pants! A lot has happened since August! We completed a very successfull production of Gilbert & Sullivan's "Trial by Jury" paired with our very own "G&S Cabaret" at Centre Stage Theatre in November! Check out our home page for a copy of our great review! We sold better than we'd ever hoped for, and want to thank everyone who came out to support operetta in the Upstate! We'll be posting some photos from the production very soon, thanks to Ron Anderson at Flying Pig photography!
We've got a very busy spring coming up: First up, our Off Stage production of Songs in the Key of Love is getting into rehearsals. This revue of the music of Rodgers & Hart is being compiled by General Director Christian Elser, Artistic Director Jenna Tamisiea as well as board member, and Rodgers & Hart guru James Stiepan. It looks to be an enchanting evening of music over at the Warehouse Theatre on March 13.
Then, the next weekend on the 19th is our spring fund-raiser at the Lazy Goat, complete with a coterie of fantastic singers performing all of your Viennese operetta hits, along with a silent auction of all sorts of goodies, and of course wonderful food.
But wait, that's not all! In mid April (date TBA soon!) come have cocktails and munchies and hear Metropolitan Opera tenor Hugo Vera sing some opera hits for you (along with our wonderful GLOW singers) - details coming soon!
And we can't forget, Johann Strauss Jr.'s Die Fledermaus runs May 6-14 at Centre Stage Theatre! Tickets are on sale now. GLOW will also be performing for the public on May 14th at the Peace Center as part of Greenville's "Artisphere." Come out and enjoy a Waltz on the Beautiful Blue Reedy!
YES! Lots of GLOW events coming up, so if you've not yet added yourself to our mailing list, do so today! We'll see you at the operetta! ;)
Chorus Auditions
by GLOW Staff on 08/21/10Well, we had a very successful last round of coro auditions on Thursday. I must say, they exceeded my expectations. I'm continually amazed at the amount of vocal talent here in Greenville that just seems to appear out of the woodwork! There was not one person that auditioned that I could not have used. But alas, we only have so much room this season, so a few difficult decisions will need to be made.
